Metals are not VERY needed depending o how you play. The most needed snd grindy and irrelevant thing in the game.
I could understand some magical items, like eggs and some yhropies maybe I make small bases witb portals and route everything i cannot take with a boat going around my coast (camps) that are ONLY used to store metals. Ultimatly i am exactly in the same position. Which is not so fun tbh beside early on exploring.
